Happy Holidays from Ducks and Dr Rushing

I received a Christmas-themed rubber ducky advent calendar as a gift this year. After initially wondering what on earth I was supposed to do with 24 rubber ducks (dressed as all sorts of wintery characters, no less!), the answer came to me: pictures with my patients!!!

Sammy was a bit shy but his bestie Calvin (who watches Sammy’s treatments) was all about the duck!

Each day of appointments leading up to Christmas, I’ll bring along the ducks for some truly amazing pictures. Thanks so much to my clients and patients for letting me engage in such a ridiculous (and fun) pastime.

Rudy is such a ball of energy, but I managed to get him to hold still for a couple seconds!
Burnham LOVED the ducks (he thought they would work well as toys to chase).
Tinkerbelle was only wondering why I took her snack out of the shot.
Cisco, the most mellow of pooches, was content to have ducky supervision for his treatment.
Sammy (a nearly 17 year old former sled dog!) and his ducks are already looking into next year.
Lena isn’t a patient, but was still such a good sport to let me take pics on a day off.
Basset duo Ginger (L) and Wasabi (R) are almost always on the move, but Ginger deigned to hold still for a few pics.
Cosmo (top right) is the goodest of boys and gave me so many pics to choose from.
Cleo is (obviously) a beauty queen, but she sure knows her angles. Never a bad picture of this girl.
Walter (doesn’t he look like a Walter?!) was ready to carry on about his day but allowed me to get a quick snap.
Nikola Tesla is a ball of energy, just like his name suggests. But a little bribery went a long way to get this great pic!
I am a veterinarian with no pets at home, but my cactus Conchita gracefully offered to help on a day with no patients.
Another day with no patients, so Rexy stepped in to entertain the duckies!

Molly is the epitome of aging gracefully.
I met Bars for the first time today and I love everything about him. He is a sweet boy and quite the distinguished gentledog.
Cosmo is back, now with more ducks!
Greta has been getting more comfortable with me each visit.
Today, she let me get a picture of her in her favorite place.
Miss Widget is a bit baffled at the sheer volume of rubber ducks in her life, but she is a good sport for pics nonetheless.

Bo (background) was distracted, but his sister Diva (foreground) oh so graciously agreed to pose for this photo.
Rosie was THE GOODEST GIRL posing for these pictures, especially because …

… she was absolutely obsessed with munching on the duckies.
Introducing what is surely the best rubber duck in the entire advent calendar: THE UNICORN!
Nikola Tesla, chipper as ever despite having knee surgery only one week ago.
No patients today, so instead, a little bit of holiday cheer.
Look at Bars! He is so photogenic
and such a good sport for picture time.
Ginger always does her best impression of a potato during her treatments, but she is such a sweet girl and so good for pictures.
Flynn is the cutest dog in the world. Nothing more to say.
Cleo is always so gorgeous.
Her bear baby joined in the pics to see what all the advent fuss was about.
Brandy was on her very best behavior for today’s picture with the ducks.
Rudy was so fascinated with the ducks he didn’t want to hold still for even a second. But who minds with a face that squishable?
Buddy! He is always such a good boy as demonstrated by his next picture…
… He was so patient! Even though the ducks fell repeatedly, he stuck with it to the end.
After resigning himself to the fact that he could not eat the ducks, Burnham settled in for a nap during his treatment.

I had so much fun taking these pics with the greatest patients in the world. Let me know if you have ideas for similar fun!

Happy Holidays everyone!
