What do “integrative” and “complementary” medicine mean?

Integrative medicine emphasizes the relationship between doctor and patient, focusing on the whole patient while using evidence-based medicine from all appropriate modalities. Complementary medicine includes alternative modalities (like acupuncture) that are intended to complement standard medicinal techniques.
GVS works alongside your primary veterinarian to offer integrative medicine.

How can I tell if my pet is in pain?

There are many behavioral and physical signs of pain, and most can be quite subtle. Often things we attribute to “just getting old” are actually signs of pain that we can help improve. During your initial appointment we will discuss specific changes in your pet which may indicate pain.

How do I know if my pet is overweight? Why does it matter?

Almost 60% of pets in America are overweight. Excess weight can cause or worsen a number of metabolic, orthopedic, and chronic health conditions. Even a few extra pounds can make a big difference. Your pet’s body condition will be assessed periodically during treatment.

How will I know if the treatments are working?

Some pets show a response to treatment after a single session, but for most pets it can take 2-3 treatments to determine if they will respond. Some conditions can be resolved in this period of time while other conditions require ongoing treatment. Referring to pain scales (under Resources) periodically, or reassessing your goals for treatment can help determine if the therapy is working. We will work together to determine if your pet is having a positive response.

Do you do vaccines, nail trims, or other primary care?

No. Please contact your primary veterinarian if you are in need of these services. Grace Veterinary Service only provides treatments intended to complement the care you receive from your primary veterinarian. These complementary treatments fall under the categories of acupuncture and physical rehabilitation.
